Japanese Uniform from Guadalcanal

Catalog Number UNI 0.011

This Japanese uniform was captured by Charles B Mulrain of B Company 1st Battalion 7th Marines 1st Marine Division on the island of Guadalcanal. It is dated 1938 and bears the unit name of the Akita Regiment which was the 17th infantry regiment of the Japanese Army. They attacked the Marines on the night of Oct 24th and 25th, 1942 during the Battle of Henderson Field. Charles served with John Basilone and was only a few foxholes away from him as he heroically defended the lines. John Basilone would receive the Medal of Honor for defending his position during the battle. Charles wore this Japanese uniform to replace his tattered Marine Corps fatigues which the 1st Marine Division and Cape Gloucester patch is still visible that he sewed on later for reunions. 

John Figura's Uniform From Saipan

This one piece camouflage uniform was worn by John Figura of the 2nd Scout and Reconaissance Platoon during the Battle of Saipan in June of 1944. The uniform is actually US Army issue, but reconnaissance platoon members and scout snipers in the US Marine Corps wore these on Tarawa and other battles. John Figura survived the Battle of Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa. 

Pearl Harbor Survivor's Uniform

This uniform belonged to Richard Combest of the USS St Louis who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. Later in the War, he would engage the Japanese in the Solomons, Aleutians. Gilberts, and other places. He was a part of the Pearl Harbor Survivor's Association.

Japanese Army Aviator's Uniform Circa 1944

This Japanese Army Flyer's Uniform dates to 1944 when Japan had a severe shortage in aviators. It came with his "Going to War" sash, personal letters, binoculars, pistol, and a variety of other accessories.

2nd Marine Division Uniform

This uniform belonged to a member of the US 2nd Marine Division who took part in the battles of Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, and Tinian.

Wake Island Survivor's Dress Blue Uniform

Catalog Number UNI 0.016

This uniform belonged to a US Marine of the 1st Defense Battalion who served on Wake Island during the Japanese Invasion in December of 1941. He survived the ordeal and spent the rest of the War in a Shanghai Prisoner of War Camp. He would wear this uniform to testify to Japanese brutality during the Tokyo Trials in 1946. 

Douglass Johnson's Uniform From Leyte Gulf

This US Naval uniform belonged to Captain Douglass Johnson of the USS Fanshaw Bay during the Battle of Leyte Gulf on October 25th, 1944. He was awarded the Second Highest Medal in the US Navy, the Navy Cross, for his heroism during the Battle. His ribbon is still on the uniform. 

1st Marine Division Uniform

This Marine Corps Winter Coat belonged to a US Marine of the 1st Marine Division during World War II. He served during the invasion of Okinawa in April of 1945 and would be wounded sometime during the battle.

Japanese Uniform Captured in Manila

Catalog Number UNI 0.019

This Japanese uniform was captured by Josef Zerr of the 6th Infantry Division in the Philippine capital of Manila in March of 1945. Wrote an annotation on the inside of the jacket describing the capture. The Battle of Manila was the only urban combat the United States faced in the Pacific War.
