US Helmet from Tarawa

This US Marine Corps M1 helmet was used during the Battle of Tarawa by Clifton E Holden of HQ Company, 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division. The white circles were painted on helmets of shore party and corpsmen personnel for organizational purposes. This practice ended after the Battle of Eniwetok in 1944.
Japanese Naval Helmet from Iwo Jima

This Japanese Naval Helmet was captured on Iwo Jima by David C Milam of 13th Marines, 5th Marine Division sometime during the battle. David faced immense psychological trauma from Iwo Jima and rarely spoke about it. When he was asked about the conditions of the capture he commented, "I just got it on Iwo Jima."

This US M1 helmet belonged to a member of the Alaska Defense Command during WWII. The helmet is swivel bale, dating it to late 1943-1945. By mid-1943, the Battle of the Aleutians was over and Alaska's role in World War II became a defensive one. The snow camouflage is unique to mountain troops in Europe or the freezing North Pacific.
